The deposit scheme is a way of recycling that was first introduced by the plastics industry in the 1960s. The scheme is designed to encourage people to recycle their plastic bottles and containers by requiring them to pay a deposit when they purchase drinks in a plastic container.

The consumer pays a small amount of money, usually around 10 cents per bottle, which is then refunded if the container is returned when empty. Over time, this fee has led many people to bring their own reusable bottles and containers to stores for refills. This saves both money and resources!
